Bueda Interview

by Jia Ji on April 29, 2009

in Interviews

For the second part of our ongoing AlphaLab interview series, we are pleased to present Vasco Pedro, CEO of Bueda, Inc.

Bueda optimizes online ad placement in rich media and user-generated content via its innovative semantic matching engine. Leveraging research from Carnegie Mellon University’s Language Technologies Institute, Bueda combines user-generated tags, existing ontologies, and semantic analysis in order to match ads with the most relevant multi-media content: Images, Video, Text and other web-accessible content.

In this wide-ranging interview, Jia talks with Vasco about the future of online searching, crowdsourcing through games, the meaning of the Portuguese word bueda, and of course, ontologies! For fun, see if you can count the number of times the word ontology is used during this interview.

AJAX Street

As part of an ongoing series, Startup Pittsburgh will be interviewing the founders of the current cycle of AlphaLab companies. We begin our series with AJAX Street and its cofounder, Scott Connelly.

AJAX Street is developing user-friendly, web-based software that enables organizations to preserve and extend their brand identity. Our conversion engine creates style guides from web styles, to enforce a consistent look across different media, saving our users time and money.

Below you can view a brief interview our gonzo startup reporter, Jia Ji, had with AJAX Street cofounder, Scott Connelly, about how AlphaLab fosters the emergence of new startups even in these dire economic times. Please excuse the poor video and sound quality, but as we’ve previously stated, these are dire economic times and we’re not professional videographers.
